Once you've cycled this fondo, everything else in life in easy. Except wrestling.

The granGABLE powered by Scheels is a mass-participation cycling event that combines all that is Hawkeye with good health, exercise, and a commitment to excellence.

Nobody embodies this more than legendary athlete and coach, Dan Gable. Through an incredible partnership between Coach Gable, the Iowa City/Coralville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Iowa Bicycle Coalition, and RAGBRAI (yes, the experts at RAGBRAI), the ride has emerged as a premier fondo in Iowa!

Ride with cyclists from all over the Hawkeye state (and beyond) on Monday, September 5, 2016. NEW for 2016, we are hosting two route lengths. Choose from 60 miles or challenge yourself by training like Gable and riding 100 miles! All century finishers will earn the exclusive and highly sought after gran GABLE completion medal. Specific details on the route will be announce in the upcoming weeks. So get registered, get training, and pedal for the medal.

Proceeds from the granGABLE fondo will benefit the Iowa Bicycle Coalition and Hawkeye Wrestling Club.

The granGABLE fondo is designed for cyclists of all ages and abilities. For our 4th year in 2016, we will host a 60 (Silver) and 100 (Gold) mile route throughout cities of Johnson County a la “Tour of Johnson County”. The route will begin at Carver-Hawkeye Arena by the commemorative Dan Gable bronze statue and end at with a lap around the concourse at Kinnick Stadium. Routes are subject to change. This exciting and challenging 100-mile route will go through all 11 cities of Johnson County: Iowa City, Solon, Shueyville, Swisher, North Liberty, Oxford, Tiffin, Coralville, Lone Tree, Hills, and University Heights. “We get to ride the Sugar Bottom hills again!?” – You Betcha! Finish the ride and receive the gold medal and tell your friends and family that you completed the “Tour of Johnson County”. View Route.

Ever wanted to experience a typical RAGBRAI day? This great 60-mile trek through Johnson County will give you the chance. This year’s 60 and 100 mile routes are more similar than ever before. Although it’s not possible to touch all 11 cities of Johnson County in 60 miles (we tried), this route will touch 8: Iowa City, Solon, Shueyville, Swisher, North Liberty, Tiffin, Coralville and University Heights. Back for its fourth year, this ride is free and open to any youth who wants to participate. The route will be led by a group of local youth riders and participants will start and finish under the official granGABLE arch. You must have a guardian present to sign the waiver to ride. Ribbons will be awarded to all participants.

Cue cards will be available at packet pickup and will list the turn-by-turn route, elevation, rest stop mileage, and rest stop closing times. There will also be an emergency number you can call if you break down or need assistance.

The gear is almost as cool as the ride! The 2016 ride will give riders the option of a swag package or simple service pass for both the Gold and Silver routes. The 2016 official granGABLE merchandise included in each rider packet for each distance is pictured below. Additional jerseys from previous years are available for purchase. View Gear.
