Des Moines is itching to break ground on the last segment of a decades-long project that would fully connect Interstate 235 with U.S. Highway 65 via Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway.

Des Moines City Council on Monday voted to submit an application for $25 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation for the last piece of the so-called Southeast Connector from Southwest 30th Street to the highway.
